Two house fires start in storage rooms

Baton Rouge firefighters battled two blazes Tuesday afternoon that both appear to have started in storage rooms attached to the houses.

No injuries were reported for either fire and the causes of the fires are still undetermined, Fire Department spokesman Robert Combs said in news releases.

Firefighters arrived at 3525 Redlands Ave., at 1:55 p.m., six minutes after receiving the call, to find fire in the storage room and attic, Combs said.

The fire caused significant damage to the home and vehicle parked in the carport before it was extinguished at 2:25 p.m., Combs said.

An adjacent home received about $15,000 in fire, smoke and heat damage, Combs said.

The second fire was called in at 2:21 p.m. and firefighters arrived four minutes later to 4755 Peerless St. to find half of the house engulfed in flames, Combs said.

Firefighters reported the blaze extinguished at 2:48 p.m., Combs said.

The house is considered a total loss, Combs said.
