Police arrest man in Hammond shooting

Hammond police arrested a man Friday night in a killing earlier that day, Hammond police Chief Roddy Devall said Sunday.

Eugene Guidry is accused of shooting Jerrell Bird on Washington Avenue, Devall said. Police were called about 12:30 a.m. Friday about the shooting and found Bird dead in a vacant lot, Devall said. Police developed Guidry as a suspect through witness statements, Devall said. No information was available on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
