Background bill passes House

The Louisiana House approved legislation Wednesday that would expand the current criminal background checks done in hiring by state colleges and universities.

The House voted 96-0 for House Bill 167 which sponsor state Rep. Simon Champagne, R-Jeanerette, would provide the same information used today for employment in K through 12 education.

The legislation would add prior convictions for sex offenses and crimes of violence as well as conviction’s dismissal.

HB167 now heads ot the Senate for debate.
