Celebrating the arts

The 27th annual Festival International de Louisiane in downtown Lafayette ended Sunday. The free event featured Cajun and Zydeco musicians, New Orleans brass bands and dozens of international acts. The festival was expected to attract nearly 400,000 visitors to the city, festival organizers said, as well as 2,000 volunteers.

The nonprofit Festival International de Louisiane formed in 1986 to produce the annual visual and performing arts festival. It celebrates the French cultural heritage of south Louisiana as well as showcasing artists from Europe, Africa, Canada, the Caribbean and the Americas.
