Deputies recover Slidell boater’s body

St. Tammany Parish sheriff’s deputies Monday night recovered the body of a Slidell man missing after a fishing trip.

Family members of Ricky Nguyen, 20, called the Sheriff’s Office about 9 p.m. after he failed to return home following the outing that began about noon, said Sgt. Sean Beavers, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman.

Beavers said Nguyen went fishing in an unknown area. Family members’ calls to his cellphone went straight to voicemail, Beavers said.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Division began a search for Nguyen and found his boat run aground near the end of Sunset Boulevard in Lakeshore Estates, Beavers said.

Deputies found Nguyen’s body nearby in the water about midnight.

The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s office and state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries were notified and are investigating the incident, which is an apparent boating accident, Beavers said.

A cause of death is pending an autopsy.

Gentilly man robbed at knifepoint Tuesday

A man was robbed at knifepoint Tuesday morning in Gentilly, police said.

According to a preliminary police log, a man walked up to the 67-year-old victim in the 3500 block of St. Anthony Avenue about 11 a.m. and demanded his property.

The victim handed over his keys and wallet, and the robber ran away. Police did not provide a description of the robber.

Gunfire injures man on Central City street

A 42-year-old man was recovering at a local hospital after someone shot him Tuesday evening, police said.

Police found the man about 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of South Saratoga Street with a gunshot wound to his right ankle, according to a preliminary police log.

The victim was brought to Interim LSU Public Hospital to be treated.

A ttendant robbed in Faubourg Marigny lot

A parking lot attendant was robbed Tuesday night as he checked the meters at a Faubourg Marigny lot.

The 32-year-old victim was checking the meters in the Premium Parking lot in the 500 block of Marigny Street about 9 p.m. when an unknown man walked up to him and pulled out a gun, according to a police log.

The robber demanded that the attendant hand over what he had, and the robber ran away with the victim’s cellphone and cash, police said.

Police did not provide a description of the robber.

Pizza delivery man punched, robbed

A pizza delivery man was beaten and robbed as he dropped off a pie late Tuesday in Algiers, police said.

The 33-year-old driver for Papa John’s Pizza was in the 3400 block of Huntlee Drive about 10:40 p.m. when three men walked up to him, according to a police log.

One of the men had a rifle and demanded that the driver hand over his wallet and cellphone. One of the men then punched the driver and took his car keys, police said.

Police did not provide a description of any of the robbers.

Woman attacked
on Algiers corner

A woman was attacked and cut as she walked in Algiers early Wednesday.

Police said the 27-year-old woman was near Wall Boulevard at Westbend Parkway about 2:30 a.m. when three women jumped her. One of the women pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in her stomach.

The victim was being treated at Interim LSU Public Hospital.

Police did not provide a description of the attackers.
