Police make arrest in Chalmette homicide
St. Bernard Parish — A Memphis man has been booked with second-degree murder after authorities accused him of killing a 33-year-old man in March and dumping his body near the New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish line.
James “Fatt” Madison, 31, is accused of killing Herman Jones Jr., 33, on March 16. Jones was found with multiple gunshot wounds on March 17 in the 4000 block of Lavoisier Street in Chalmette, according to Steve Cannizaro, a spokesman for the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Madison is being held on $1 million bond in St. Bernard Parish jail. Cannizaro said that in a statement to police Madison admitted knowing the victim and being with him the night of his death.
Investigators used surveillance footage from New Orleans and St. Bernard Parish to assist in the case, he said.
