Man gets two years for tax evasion

A Lafayette man who pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion was sentenced Tuesday to two years in federal prison and three years supervised release, officials said.

Gary M. Scott, 61, was also ordered by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote to pay $362,961 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley said in a news release.

The release stated Scott earned $2.4 million between 2004 and 2009 but failed to pay “timely” tax payments on the earnings, the release states.

“Our office will continue to prosecute those who intentionally violate tax laws,” Finley said.
