A Bogalusa man was killed Saturday night when he was thrown from his sport utility vehicle after it crashed into an embankment and overturned, State Police said Sunday.
Sidney Sumrall, 54, was not wearing a seat belt when the accident occurred about 10:30 p.m. in Washington Parish, about six miles north of Franklinton, Trooper First Class Nick Manale said in a news release.
Sumrall was headed west on La. 436 in a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle drifted off the road to the right, the release says.
Sumrall pulled too hard to the left and veered off the road again, the release says. The Suburban crashed into an embankment and overturned, ejecting the victim, police said.
Sumrall was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol is not suspected, but State Police are awaiting a toxicology exam, Manale's release says.
