Cultures come together for Metairie parade

The 31st annual Louisiana Irish-Italian parade rolled at noon Sunday in Metairie, led by Irish grand marshal Kim Brown Sr., a Metairie businessman, and Italian grand marshal Michael Yenni, the mayor of Kenner. The parade tradition is an outgrowth of the Zeus St. Patrick’s Day Marching Club after Zeus marchers were asked not to return because they had “grown too large,” according to the Louisiana Irish-Italian Parade website, http://www.lairish-italian.org. The first Irish–Italian Parade rolled on the streets of Jefferson Parish in 1983, and it’s been an annual tradition since.
