Meeting set on West Feliciana’s new districting plan
ST. FRANCISVILLE — The Kenner demographer hired to develop a districting plan for a parish council will conduct a meeting on his proposed plan Monday, the Police Jury’s secretary-treasurer said.
Cedric Floyd presented his proposal for dividing the parish into four council districts at a March 18 jury meeting.
A home-rule charter that voters approved in November changes the Police Jury to a Parish Council with one at-large member and four members elected from single-member districts.
The charter also calls for an elected parish president.
Jury Secretary-Treasurer Sherrel Johnson said the public is invited to attend Monday’s 6:30 p.m. meeting at West Feliciana Parish Fire Protection District 1’s headquarters, 9892 West Feliciana Parkway.
Floyd’s plan, which includes two majority black districts, will be explained at the meeting, Johnson said.
