Fiction authors offer readings Saturday
LAFAYETTE — Fiction writers Michael Jeffrey Lee and Shome Dasgupta will read from their works at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Ernest J. Gaines Center in Dupré Library.
Lee’s debut collection of stories, “Something in My Eye,” was recently published by Sarabande Books and won the Mary McCarthy Prize.
Dasgupta is the author of “i am here And You Are Gone,” winner of the 2010 OW Press Fiction Chapbook Contest.
The event is free and open to public.
ULL symphony sets free performance
LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Symphony Orchestra will present a free concert featuring guest string performers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Angelle Hall.
More than 110 young string players from throughout Louisiana will join the symphony to perform Peter Warlock’s “Capriol Suite” and Soon Hee Newbold’s “Fantasia Espagnola.”
The concert also will feature “Cathedral,” by Natchitoches composer Kenneth Olson; the “Forsyth Viola Concerto,” featuring viola student Patrick Prejean; and the finale from Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Symphony No. 5.”

Hospitality program earns accreditation
LAFAYETTE — The University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s hospitality management program received accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Management.
The program is part of the B.I. Moody III College of Business Administration and is one of 63 hospitality management programs accredited by the ACPHA.
The ACPHA accreditation commission consists of 12 members, including hospitality educators, executives from the lodging, restaurant and hospitality industry, and members of the public.
