The program will feature music, theater, poetry and dance performed by students and community members, including a special tribute to the 50th anniversary of the 1963 civil rights march on Washington, D.C., and Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Award-winning literary selections for children and adults will be given as door prizes. Lane Regional recognized The Louisiana Nurses Foundation and Louisiana Nurses Association named Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary as “2013 Acute Care Hospital of the Year,” for hospitals with 61 to 160 beds, during the 12th annual Nightingale Awards program Saturday in Baton Rouge. The awards recognize excellence in nursing and quality service in the nursing and health care industry. Free vascular screening Lane Regional Medical Center and Vascular Specialty Center offer free vascular screening for people 55 years of age and up from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 2, at the office of Dr. Gregory Crenshaw, 4801 McHugh Road, Suite C, in Zachary. The noninvasive, ultrasound tests will be used to detect peripheral arterial disease, stroke risk and abdominal aneurysms. Screening is by appointment only; call (225) 654-LANE (5263). Trash and treasure The annual Inner Wheel of Baton Rouge Trash and Treasure Sale will be held this year in the old Wal-Mart building at Plank and Groom roads in Baker March 8-10. Trucks have been hauling in sale merchandise for several weeks. Camellia talk Patricia Aleshire will present a seminar on camellias at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rosedown State Historic Site in St. Francisville. The lecture will be followed by a walking tour of the Rosedown gardens. Pilgrimage coming The annual Audubon Pilgrimage will be held March 15-17 in West Feliciana Parish.
