Former Lafayette police officer indicted again

A former Lafayette police officer has been charged in a second accusation of sexually assaulting a woman while on duty and in uniform.

A Lafayette Parish grand jury on Wednesday indicted Jackie Hagan Jr., 34, of Sunset, with one count of sexual battery and one count of malfeasance in office in an alleged August 2011 incident.

In August 2012, a bill of information from the Lafayette District Attorney’s Office charged Hagan with one count of sexual battery in an alleged November 2011 incident in downtown Lafayette.

Assistant District Attorney Michele Billeaud, whose office will prosecute Hagan, was unavailable for comment Thursday.

In the grand jury indictment, Hagan is accused of sexual accosting a woman identified only as H.E. on Aug. 20, 2011.

It also states that Hagan committed malfeasance in office after allegedly assaulting the woman while in uniform and on duty.

The indictment does not offer any additional information.

In the November 2011 incident, a woman told investigators that Hagan inappropriately touched and kissed her after she called police about a fight in downtown Lafayette.

In a lawsuit she later filed against Hagan, she said she allowed Hagan to give her a ride home despite her reservations. She said that once they arrived at her house, Hagan pulled her shirt up and kissed and bit her breasts before she could escape.

Thomas Alonzo, Hagan’s attorney, said Thursday that his client would bring the allegations to a trial.

“We’re going to fight both of these to the end,” Alonzo said. “We’re going to take it to trial. We want to take it to trial.”

Alonzo said the case is not yet at the discovery phase, when suspect and attorneys see what evidence prosecutors have.

Hagan resigned from the Police Department in January 2012.
