Police probe shooting on Oriole Street

Baton Rouge police are investigating a shooting Monday afternoon in the 1400 block of Oriole Street.

Police found a man shot in the leg, Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said. Police are unsure of motives or suspects at this time, he said.

The man’s injuries do not appear to be life threatening, Stubbs said. The victim was taken to a hospital, he said.

Four arrested on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least four people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish — including a man on a fourth-offense DWI — and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Roger Guerin, 38, 8897 Ferry Road, New Roads, first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control.
  • Tony Hudson, 32, 11070 Mead Road, Baton Rouge, third-offense DWI, possession of alcohol in a vehicle, driver’s license suspended or revoked, and improper lane usage.

the first offense should be severe enough to make an impression but not so severe it ruins a family's financial standings. the second and/or rest should be incarceration of a period that it will be remembered. all crimes resulting in incarceration should be at hard labor, 7/365/14 hours a day.

Widdy, funny thing is, more people drive drunk without a license than have ever shot an AR-15. More people die at the hands of a drunk driver than do by AR-15s. More children die at the hands of drunk drivers than to by AR-15s. Chances are you will be killed by a drunk driver over an AR-15. And yet, this whole country is in an uproar over AR-15s? A weapon that by the numbers, is actually VERY VERY RARELY used in crimes. This country is more focused on literally a few deaths compared to hundreds if not thousands a year by drunk drivers. Why is that??? Possible reasons? The government makes more money off of DWIs could be one. IF our government ever did turn tyrannical, it would be harder to do so with AR-15s out there than a nation of drunk drivers. This government basically ALLOWS us to kill each other with any means possible, unless it is with something that could actually be used as a real defense against them.

It amazes me at how many of these people arrested for DWI are driving around without a drivers liscense or are now on their third of fourth offense. One part of the problem is that the punishment is not severe enough. What about a $5,000 fine,3000 hours of community service and loss of driving privledges for one year for the first offense. A $15,000 fine, three years in the pen, 5,000 hours community service and loss of driving privledges for 5 years for a second offense. A $25,000 fine and 10 years incarceration for a third and life in prison for anyone with four DWI convictions? I bet that may make someone think twice before drinking and driving.
