State Police: Port Allen man dies in U.S. 190 crash State Police: Port Allen man dies in U.S. 190 crash Advocate staff report| Feb. 01, 2013 Comments A 60-year-old Port Allen man died Wednesday night after his Cadillac Escalade slammed into a tractor-trailer trying to turn into a private driveway off U.S. 190 near the Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge, State Police said. Alvester Moore Jr., 51, of Smackover, Ark., was traveling east on U.S. 190 in a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer at 7:45 p.m. when he attempted to turn left into a private driveway, Trooper 1st Class Jared Sandifer said in a news release. While Moore was turning, a 2006 Cadillac Escalade driven by Wilson Battley Jr. and heading west on the highway slammed into the trailer that stretched across both lanes, killing Battley, Sandifer said. The Escalade became stuck under the trailer, Sandifer said. Battley, of Port Allen, was wearing a seat belt, Sandifer said. Troopers do not know if alcohol was a factor and they submitted a toxicology sample from Moore to the State Police Crime Lab, Sandifer said. The accident is still under investigation and charges could still be pending, Sandifer said. All lanes of the highway were closed due to the accident, Sandifer said.
