Walker man sentenced Walker man sentenced Florida Parishes bureau Jan. 31, 2013 Comments LIVINGSTON — A 21st Judicial District Court judge sentenced a Walker man to 10 years in prison on a vehicular homicide conviction, the District Attorney’s Office reported Wednesday. Manuel Garcia-Gallegos, 32, will serve his sentence in custody of the Louisiana Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to the charge, according to a news release from the office. Garcia-Gallegos’ vehicle ran into the rear of a car in April, killing Dean Albares, of Hammond, prosecutor Charlotte Herbert said. Garcia-Gallegos had attempted to pass Albares’ vehicle at a high rate of speed, but hit it in the rear and ran it off the road, Herbert said. The defendant’s blood-alcohol content registered 0.2, which is more than twice the legal limit, according to the release. A blood-alcohol level of 0.08 percent is considered presumptive evidence of drunken driving in Louisiana for those 21 and over. Garcia-Gallegos had a prior conviction in 2009 for DWI, Hebert said.
