Shooting, cemetery fight lead to arrest

Sheriff’s deputies Sunday arrested a 22-year-old man accused of shooting at four people in an SUV on Jan. 12 near Wilbur and Jay streets after breaking the windows of the SUV with a baseball bat at a cemetery, according to an arrest warrant.

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies responding to a shooting in the 2500 block of Jay Street discovered that family members had been fighting in a cemetery at 12555 Sunshine Road after a family member was buried there, the warrant says.

During the fight, Dabre Smith allegedly took a baseball bat from the trunk of a car and bashed the rear window and rear passenger window of a relative’s sport utility vehicle the warrant says.

Smith then drove off in his aunt’s vehicle, the warrant says. The SUV’s driver and three other people followed Smith in the SUV, the warrant says.

As the driver of the SUV approached intersection of Wilbur and Jay streets, he saw Smith standing in the middle of Jay Street, the warrant says.

Smith then pointed a gun at the SUV and shot, the warrant says.

Smith, 8725 Wilbur St., was booked into Parish Prison on four counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count each of aggravated criminal damage to property, simple criminal damage to property, hit and run, and illegal use of a weapon.

Man held in sex case involving 15-year-old

Baton Rouge police Sunday arrested a 19-year-old man accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Harlan Harper, 19, 12738 Lockhaven Ave., was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.

The incident happened at the victim’s home, police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said.

17-year-old arrested
on indecency count

Baton Rouge police Sunday arrested a 17-year-old Baker man accused of trapping a 13-year-old girl in a bathroom at a home on Fairfield Drive and then sexually assaulting her, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

James Green, 17, 2116 E. Azalea Drive, Baker, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count each of false imprisonment, indecent behavior with a juvenile and simple battery.

Oh wow....... another fine family shooting at each other. I wonder if it was over a pair or tennis shoes or because someones uncle was sleeping with one of the babies mammy!! Either way, like I have said before, when people are raised like animals, live like animals, are as well educated as animals and breed like animals, this is what hgappens. This will NEVER change. It is a culture that has been developing for the past 100 years. Glad my parents raised their family differently, more along the lines of getting an education, being responsible for your actions and working hard to earn what you have.

This James Green is no boy what so ever, he is a careless, weed head who spends his time on Facebook rapping about street violence and immoral sexual acts. He has no respect of women or moral standards. He is a product of his idols. i.e. "Free Boosie Mentality" Hasn't been free for 24 hours and is already bragging about he FREE!!

A 17 year old is a man if he is evil enough to trap a young girl then rape her. He knew exactly what he was doing and should be charged as an adult. Accountability.

So, a 17 year old shouldn't be arrested for false imprisonment, indecent behavior and simple battery? With that kind of thinking, no wonder we have so much crime. I guess a 17 year old doesn't know right from wrong, huh?

there's nothing like a fight and a shooting to show respect for the dead. i don't know if it better or worse that neither resulted in even more funerals, as my family doesn't participate in that tradition.

Since when is a 17 year old a man? A child may be held liable as a man for certain crimes but it does not change the fact that he is still a boy until he reaches the age of majority which, as I understand it, is still 18. The fact of the matter is most boys aren't men until much later in life than then. Mr. Green's no man.
