Cyclist dies in Ambassador Caffery crash

A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday when he crashed into the rear of a pickup truck on Ambassador Caffery Parkway, police said.

The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

The 24-year-old victim was riding south with another motorcyclist on an Ambassador Caffery overpass near Cameron Street “when they observed traffic at a stop on top of the overpass,” according to a news release from police.

One rider was able to lay his motorcycle down before hitting the stopped traffic, but the second rider crashed into a Ford F-150 that was stopped at a traffic light, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police reported the lunch-hour crash just after noon Wednesday.

The accident snarled traffic on Ambassador Caffery when police closed all lanes in a section of the thoroughfare near Interstate 10.

Police reopened lanes at 2:09 p.m.
