Sorrento homicide arrest made

Deputies arrested a Baton Rouge man in the Jan. 12 “execution-style slaying” of Gerald Wilkins on LV Road in Sorrento, while another suspect remains at large, Ascension Parish Sheriff Jeff Wiley reported Saturday.

Wilkins and two other men, Cecil Beals and Calvin Williams, drove from Baton Rouge to Sorrento, bought gasoline, then drove to LV Road, where Beals and Williams allegedly killed Williams, Wiley said in a news release.

Beals and Williams allegedly made several calls to a man who lives on Panama Road, near LV Road, around the time of the shooting, Wiley said.

The motive for the killing is unclear, but the men were “obviously involved in the illegal drug trade” and all “have extensive criminal records,” Wiley said.

Detectives booked Cecil Beals, 53, 9429 Avis Ave., Baton Rouge, into Ascension Parish Jail on one count of second-degree murder on Jan. 18, Wiley said. At the time of the arrest, Beals was held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for failing to appear in court for a traffic violation, Wiley said.

Williams, 37, has a last-known address of 1138 Round Hill Drive, but the house is abandoned with no power, Wiley said.

Baton Rouge police, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Louisiana State Police and the State Police Crime Lab helped with the investigation, Wiley said.

Anyone with further information on the homicide and the whereabouts of Williams is asked to contact the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.

Hey, twinkie1cat, where are you? We now have two more black Baton Rouge criminals coming to our parish to murder. Does that count in your statement that we kill each other? I sure hope these guys weren't your neighbors. They should have been playing basketball instead.
