Walker woman killed in Denham Springs wreck Walker woman killed in Denham Springs wreck Advocate staff report| Jan. 18, 2013 Comments DENHAM SPRINGS — Police in Denham Springs are investigating a fatal crash that happened Wednesday evening after police responded to a report of a theft at Wal-Mart. Sonya Turner, 40, of Walker, was killed in the wreck after she veered off Tate Road, struck a tree and overturned in a green sport utility vehicle, police spokesman Shawn Perkins said in a news release. Police had responded before 8 p.m. to separate reports of thefts at Wal-Mart, Perkins said. Officers passed Turner’s vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on Tate Road, Perkins said. “While the officer was turning around, witnesses stated, the driver began accelerating and passing other vehicles,” Perkins said in the release. “When the officer reached the suspect’s location, the vehicle was found crashed.” Turner was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call police at (225) 665-5106.
