Marrero teen dies from injuries in fire

Marrero — A 15-year-old Marrero girl died Monday from injuries she received when her family’s home burned down last week.

Diante Snowton was injured in the Thursday blaze in the 400 block of Meyers Boulevard. Snowton, along with five other children, were rescued from the home by firefighters from the Marrero-Harvey Volunteer Fire Department and their father, Gerald Snowton.

Diante was treated for burns and smoke inhalation at West Jefferson Medical Center but died later at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans. The fire apparently began in an upstairs bedroom.

Police investigate shooting of man

New Orleans — Police are investigating a shooting Tuesday afternoon that left a man hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds to the chest.

Officers received a report of shots fired at South Liberty and Amelia streets at about 1:33 p.m., police said. Officers didn’t find anyone at the scene, but later learned that a man had been transported to a hospital with three gunshot wounds to the chest.

No other information was released.

Man shot, listed in stable condition

New Orleans— A 29-year-old man was shot multiple times shortly before midnight Monday but was in stable condition Tuesday.

The incident was reported in the 1700 block of Eagle Street at about 11:27 p.m., police said.

The victim told police that he was walking in the neighborhood when a vehicle tried to run him over. The victim said someone then exited the vehicle and opened fire on him. He was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital.

Police seek womanin theft of purse

New Orleans — Police are looking for a woman who stole from a business employee with her small child in tow.

The incident was reported at about 10:50 a.m. Jan. 9 at 2700 Canal Street. Two women entered a nail salon with a small child, and one of them asked to use the restroom. The woman went to the restroom with the child, but while in the rear of the business she entered a business office and stole a purse.

Inmate accused of lying about rape

Gretna — An inmate at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center was arrested on new charges Monday after authorities said he lied about being raped in a bathroom.

Kerry Williams, 25, was booked with false swearing after correctional officers said he lied about being raped after being involved in a consensual sexual relationship for protection. Williams was already in custody for attempted aggravated escape.

Metairie man booked with DWI count

Metairie — A Metairie man was arrested Monday when witnesses said he tried to get into his neighbor’s home late at night while intoxicated, deputies said.

Dale Messina, 52, was arrested after deputies were called to his neighbor’s home on Oaklawn Drive because Messina was trying to get into the home, according to an arrest report. The resident armed himself with a shotgun and warned Messina to leave, at which point he went to his vehicle and fell asleep with it running.

Police found Messina, who lives just down the block, and booked him with second-offense driving while intoxicated.

Man shot in home invasion arrested

New Orleans — A New Orleans man injured during a home invasion last week was booked into Orleans Parish Central Lockup on Monday.

Jerome Guy, 26, was shot during a home invasion on St. Ann Street on Jan. 6, according to court records.

Police saidGuy and an accomplice forced their way inside of a home and tried to shoot a man there, but Guy was shot by the resident. Guy was booked with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.
