EBR records 83 homicides in 2012 EBR records 83 homicides in 2012 BY KIMBERLY VETTER| Advocate staff writer Comments Law enforcement agencies in East Baton Rouge Parish investigated 83 homicides in 2012. Detectives with the Baton Rouge Police Department handled 67 of the cases. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Office investigated 15 killings. And authorities with the Baker Police Department investigated one. Authorities also worked six justifiable homicides that were deemed self-defense. Motives for the killings are given when provided by law enforcement. Details of the crimes come from law enforcement agencies and prosecutors. Information about charges filed in the cases is current through Jan. 2. JANUARY JAN. 1: Gregory Alexander, 22, was shot just after the new year in the 1900 block of 69th Street. No arrests have been made. JAN. 3: Lionel White, 33, was shot in front of a home at 4025 Fairfields Ave. No arrests have been made. JAN. 3: Toney Banks, 43, was shot near his car in the 6100 block of Blackberry Street. No arrests have been made. JAN. 5: Darren Banks, 19, was shot at 11417 Stan Ave. following a fight with his attacker. No arrests have been made. JAN. 14: Kimberly Stewart, 35, was shot during an argument with her girlfriend, Kolande Schelese Williams, at 3305 Sandy Drive in Baker. Williams, 39, was charged with second-degree murder. JAN. 31: Irise Blakes, 19, and Carlton Alexander Smith, 18, were gunned down at the intersection of East Fairlane Court and Maplewood Drive. No arrests have been made. FEBRUARY FEB. 1: Ira Bennett Jr., 19, was shot on the sidewalk outside his home in the 6000 block of Calion Drive. Larry Lamar Thomas, 18, 6274 Flag St., was charged with second-degree murder. FEB. 2: Demond Sanford, 26, was found shot inside his car behind 1060 Central Road. No arrests have been made. FEB. 5: Justin Weideman, 19, was shot in the parking lot of New Port Villa apartments at 1737 La Annie Drive. Darrell C. Jupiter, 36, 12389 Warfield Ave., and Jarvis B. Turner, 30, 855 S. Flannery Road, were charged with second-degree murder. FEB. 14: Kevin Johnson, 21, of Denham Springs, was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the 2500 block of North Acadian Thruway. Erick Scott, 21, 2134 N. 17th St., was charged with second-degree murder. FEB. 16: Tyrone Clark, 55, was shot outside 266 W. Polk St. following an argument with Tameka Johnson, 30, 2945 Alaska St. Johnson was charged with second-degree murder. MARCH MARCH 1: Kayla Selders, a 23-year-old pregnant mother of two, was shot while sitting behind the wheel of a red Honda Civic in the 2800 block of Washington Avenue. Elijah Smith, 23, 9426 Thayer Ave., was charged with second-degree murder. MARCH 2: Joseph Beathley, 62, was beaten to death at 1615 N. Acadian Thruway East with a bottle of Seagram’s gin during an argument with a man. Leroy Woods, 50, 731 N. 32nd St., was charged with manslaughter. MARCH 3: Silas Roderick Gibbs, a 24-year-old former Southern University football player, allegedly was shot by a onetime friend while they rode in a car with two other friends on Interstate 110 south near the Chippewa Street exit. Walter J. Fort, 23, 6817 Lower Zachary Road, Zachary, was charged with second-degree murder. MARCH 5: Jeremy Stewart, 25, was shot during a drug deal gone bad while sitting inside a car parked in the 1700 block of Columbus Dunn Drive. Jordan K. Tate, 18, and Lashonda Sanford, 24, both of 1535 N. 46th St., were charged with second-degree murder. MARCH 11: Jeffrey L. Jones, 52, was found inside an abandoned residence at 2551 Lobelia St. Authorities say Jones, who was homeless and living in the abandoned house, had probably been shot a few days prior to being found. No arrests have been made. MARCH 11: Brian Bradley, 23, died 10 days after being stabbed at Brandywine Apartments, 10950 Darryl Drive, during an argument about a tattoo he gave Bergeron Carter. Carter, 43, of Brandywine, was charged with manslaughter. MARCH 12: Courtland Coleman, 29, was shot under a carport at 5564 Melrose Drive. No arrests have been made. MARCH 12: Gunner Williamson, 22, died after being beaten unconscious and dumped in a ditch in the 1300 block of Bob Pettit Boulevard. No arrests have been made. MARCH 15: Bobby Rowe, 57, was shot during a fight with his roommate at their 3977 Sycamore St. home. Lonnie C. Johnson Jr., 33, was charged with second-degree murder. MARCH 29: Latrell Davis, 23, died three days after being shot during a drug deal in the 10200 block of Gerald Street. Nicholas Revish, 22, 2801 Thomas Road, was charged with manslaughter. MARCH 31: Tiffany Degazon, 33, was shot by the side of the 1200 block of South River Road. Degazon’s next-door neighbor, Warren P. Slan, 44, 8210 Skysail Ave., was booked with second-degree murder. APRIL APRIL 10: Prince Javeion Deshaun Brown, 2 months, was found dead from blunt force trauma to the head in a puddle of water on East Mount Pleasant Road in Zachary. His mother, Sabrina Maiden, 22, 1250 E. Mount Pleasant Road, Zachary, was booked with first-degree murder. APRIL 12: Quention Pollard, 23, died from a gunshot wound he suffered on April 9 during a shoot-out in the 1000 block of North Donmoor Avenue. Leonardo McCray, 22, 9523 Coronado Drive, and Raymond Robins, 25, 1084 Monet Drive, were booked with second-degree murder. APRIL 15: Brandon Harris, 29, was shot in the 1400 block of Sharlo Avenue. No arrests have been made. APRIL 22: Dennis Thomas Jr., 18, was shot while sitting inside a Chevrolet Tahoe parked in front of a house in the 1700 block of America Street. No arrests have been made. APRIL 29: Armando Rodriguez Jr., 47, died from internal injuries he suffered in an April 27 fight in the 2900 block of Winnebago Street. Willie Byrd Jr., 54, 3255 Linden St., was booked with second-degree murder. MAY MAY 4: Christopher King, 26, died two days after he was shot while driving his car in the 1300 block of Oriole Street. Erin Gross, 19, 1420 Cardinal St., was charged with second-degree murder. MAY 5: Danjae Parker, 23, died three days after being shot in the head while sitting in a vehicle at a stop sign at Oaklan Drive and Beechwood Drive. No arrests have been made. MAY 14: Dederick Droze, 24, was shot after driving his alleged shooter to a convenience store in the 6000 block of Oak Park Drive. Roman Montrell Trosclair Sr., 29, 7263 Maplewood Drive, was charged with second-degree murder. MAY 16: Royal Anthony Jones, 28, was shot in the parking lot of his 5665 McClelland Drive apartment complex. His alleged killer and accomplices went after Jones because they believed he raped a woman they knew. Carzel Robertson, 21, 2730 Elgin St., was charged with second-degree murder. Keion Dshay Carr, 24, 1900 Blount Road; Isaac Carr, 18, 5152 Bank St.; Jerrid Michael Davis, 18, 18383 Elm Grove Garden; and Keymah Danta Hills, 18, 1953 Progress St., were charged with conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. MAY 22: Jeremy McKenzie, 23, was shot in the 900 block of North 31st Street. No arrests have been made. MAY 25: Jamie Davenport, 33, and James L. Brown, 44, were shot in the front yard of Brown’s house at 5366 Thomas Road. Davenport’s estranged husband, Alfred Scales, 49, was charged with two counts of second-degree murder. MAY 26: Raymond L. Sowell, 24, was shot while sitting outside a house at 334 Brice St. No arrests have been made. MAY 28: Reagan Rowe, 26, was shot by her stepfather, David Robinson, at 3166 Cedarcrest Ave., following an argument he had with Rowe’s mother about getting a divorce. Robinson, 57, then turned the gun on himself. JUNE JUNE 1: Allison Brue, 31, died from injuries she suffered in a May 29 shooting at 4043 Tuscarora St. Authorities say Brue, who was six months pregnant, was shot by her boyfriend, Benny Johnson, 27, who then turned the gun on himself. Brue’s baby survived without injury. JUNE 5: Telly Heard, 21, was shot in the 1100 block of South 10th Street following an argument with Jonathan West, 22, 2750 Alaska St. West was booked with second-degree murder. JUNE 8: Kesia Coleman, 35, and her son were shot inside their home at 2850 Magazine Drive. The mother and son were shot by Coleman’s ex-husband, Rouche Coleman, 38, who later shot and killed himself. The son survived. JUNE 9: Curtis Mitchell, 31, was shot in a drug-related armed robbery at his 5303 Paige St. home. Jeremy Payne, 20, 6766 Vineyard Drive, was charged with second-degree murder. JUNE 12: Xzayvion Riley, 8, died at a local hospital from an infection caused by a ruptured bowel from blunt-force trauma to his abdomen. An autopsy also showed 60 external signs of recent and old trauma, including abrasions, bruises and a human bite mark. Riley’s parents, Michael Robertson, 46, 11480 Glenda Drive, and Lavaughn Riley, 32, 8711 Coy Ave., were charged with first-degree murder. JUNE 19: Zaharan Abu Awwad, 21, was shot during an armed robbery while working at his uncle’s business, Tire Discount, at 6970 Plank Road. No arrests have been made. JUNE 22: Malcolm Fitzgerald Johnson, 19, was shot at 944 Elvin Drive during an argument with Quinton Edwards Davis, 22, 1722 General Cleburne Ave. Davis was charged with second-degree murder. JUNE 24: Jarvis Nelson, 22, was shot inside a vehicle parked in the 4000 block of Sarasota Drive. Gary Davis, 22, 4511 Norwich Drive, was booked with first-degree murder. JUNE 26: Jermaine Vallery, 22, was shot during an argument outside 8211 Ned Ave. Davontay Kendall Ricks, 19, of 5705 Alexander Ave., was booked with first-degree murder. Detectives are still looking for John Albert Goza III, 24, of 3216 Seneca St., for principal to first-degree murder. JUNE 26: DeAndre Jenkins, 21, was shot at the corner of Scenic Highway and Ellerslie Drive during an argument about a dice game. No arrests have been made. JUNE 29: Columbus F. Milligan III, 37, was shot behind an apartment complex at 4202 Mohican-Prescott Crossover. No arrests have been made. JUNE 30: Jordan Key, 18, was shot at 3600 College Drive and then drove to an area near the Perkins Road-South Acadian Thruway intersection, where he died. Chattley Chesterfield, 19, 1454 Jordan St., was booked with first-degree murder and Michael C. Francois, 23, 3285 N. Ardenwood Drive, was charged with accessory to first-degree murder. JULY JULY 1: Juan Lopez, 26, was stabbed outside the Latin Club at 8142 Greenwell Springs Road. No arrests have been made. JULY 9: Montaser Zarrouq, 32, was shot at his place of employment, Jim & Lu’s Food Mart at 1701 Government St. No arrests have been made. JULY 10: Joshua Moore, 28, and Colamecia McQuirter, 25, were shot in their apartment at 1716 N. Harco Drive. No arrests have been made. JULY 15: Ladrian Davis, 26, was stabbed following an argument with his girlfriend at their 11850 Wentling Ave. home. Katina Carter, 29, was convicted of manslaughter. JULY 22: Christopher Dimattia, 36, died after being shoved to the ground and hitting his head on concrete during a fight at a party at 532 Albert Hart Drive. Jeryet Bourg, 26, 1308 America St., Mandeville, was booked with manslaughter but a grand jury declined to indict him. JULY 23: Kedrick Dennis, 30, was shot while standing in his yard at 3006 Madison Ave. No arrests have been made. JULY 24: Louis Spears, 39, was shot on the front porch of a home at 952 Terrace Ave. No arrests have been made. JULY 24: James R. Mimms, 42, was shot while visiting with friends at 2562 Thomas H. Delpit Drive. Donovan Woods, 17, 12447 Warfield Ave., was charged with second-degree murder. JULY 25: Raolatu Alowonle, 28, and her 11-year-old niece were shot while walking on the sidewalk near 1844 Ryder Drive. The girl, who was shot in the leg, survived. Alowonle’s boyfriend, Devon T. Livous, 28, 9722 Blackemore Ave., was charged with first-degree murder. AUGUST AUG. 3: Philip Boudreaux, 18, died three days after being shot at his apartment, 4707 Tigerland Ave., by two men posing as pizza delivery men. Authorities have said the shooting was over drugs and robbery. George Triplett, 22, 413 Elmer St., and Dedrick Brown, 24, 4305 Chapeaux Drive, Baker, were booked with first-degree murder. AUG. 5: Earl Brown, 30, was shot in the parking lot outside his apartment at 1633 Cedar Lake Drive. Jermaine York, 31, 1614 Emmaline Lane, was charged with second-degree murder. AUG. 6: Travis Holland, 24, was shot during an attempted robbery after he stepped outside his apartment at 3235 Wyoming St. to smoke a cigarette. Deldrige Robinson, 18, 985 W. Grant St., was charged with second-degree murder. AUG. 8: Derrick Alexander, 35, was shot outside his home at 5315 Ritterman Ave. No arrests have been made. AUG. 9: Bobby Nelson, 43, of Denham Springs, died two days after being shot during an armed robbery at the Chevron service station at 501 St. Ferdinand St. near downtown. Phillip Carter, 22, 250 N. 14th St., Port Allen, and Robert Pierson, 17, 5109 Rebelle Lane, Port Allen, were charged with second-degree murder. AUG. 11: Dale Vincent Bentley, 37, was shot under the carport of his home at 2565 Bartlett St. after a domestic dispute. Bentley’s girlfriend, Jacqulyne Scott, 48, 9351 Pascagoula St., was booked with second-degree murder. AUG. 15: D’Andre Robertson, 22, was shot while watching two women fight in a yard at 4766 Shelley St. Trei Bailey, 20, 4766 Shelley St., was booked with second-degree murder AUG. 16: Ty-O’Brian Porter, 18, was shot during a dispute outside his home at 1863 Curtis St. Izzamon Jackson, 17, 782 New Rafe Meyer Road, was charged with second-degree murder. AUG. 21: Otis D. Kinchen, 36, was shot in a vacant lot in the 1200 block of Convention Street. No arrests have been made. AUG. 21: Carlois Lebouf, 28, was shot near 100 N. 13th St. Authorities have said the shooting is related to the Aug. 21 shooting of Otis D. Kinchen. Jermaine St. Cyr, 122 N. 13th St., was booked with first-degree murder. AUG. 31: Bryan Young, 27, was shot between two apartment buildings at Sharon Arms Apartment complex at 2747 Huron St. No arrests have been made. SEPTEMBER SEPT. 5: David Atkins, 27, was shot in a drive-by shooting while walking in the 2700 block of Appleton Avenue. Jermaine Redmond Williams, 32, 2742 Appleton Ave., was charged with second-degree murder. Anthony Wiggins, 30, 12346 Palmyra Drive, was booked with principal to second-degree murder. SEPT. 8: Roger Watkins, 22, was stabbed during an argument over a woman at his 1222 Jim Taylor Drive apartment. Justin Harrison, 20, 4636 Alvin Dark Ave., was arrested and booked on a count of second-degree murder. SEPT. 22: Toliver Terrell Lyons, 25, was shot near an apartment complex in the 8000 block of Stern Avenue. No arrests have been made. SEPT. 25: Shylah Hicks, 21, was shot during a domestic dispute outside her home at 1724 Madison Ave. She was five months pregnant, and her fetus also died. Hicks’ boyfriend, Adam Sterling, 33, 3615 Chippewa St., was arrested and booked on one count each of second-degree murder and first-degree feticide. OCTOBER OCT. 8: Clemmite Leagea, 45, was killed in a drug-related shooting on the grounds of his apartment complex at 11445 Bard Ave. No arrests have been made. NOVEMBER NOV. 1: Clifton Earl Walker III, 27, of Baker, was run over and found inside the truck of his Dodge Challenger behind Vizion’s Barber and Beauty Salon at 4585 Evangeline St. Damarcos Gross, 19, 2111 E. Azalea Ave., Baker, was booked with accessory to first-degree murder. NOV. 6: Derrick Marioneaux, 34, was shot after several people forced their way into his home at 3184 Wyandotte Street. Benjamin Bailey, 20, 2630 Arbutus Ave.; Juan Herbert, 21, 3127 Pampas St.; and an unidentified 14-year-old boy were booked with first-degree murder. NOV. 7: Mary Johnson, 16, died from a gunshot wound she suffered on May 5 while walking in the 3700 block of Topeka Street. Authorities say Johnson was shot as she walked away from a man with whom she refused to have sex. Dedric White, 18, 4115 Mohican St., was booked with second-degree murder. NOV. 27: Shermaine Matthews, 28, was shot inside his home at 4838 Jefferson Ave. Harrison Morgan, 20, was booked with second-degree murder. NOV. 30: Eugene George, 31, died a day after being shot while sitting in a vehicle parked at Neighbors Food Mart at 2879 Dougherty Drive. No arrests have been made. DECEMBER DEC. 10: Shalonda Green, 30, was stabbed during a domestic dispute at her home, 2726 Jackson Ave. Green’s estranged boyfriend, Mark Turner, 48, 3060 N. Acadian Thruway E., was booked with second-degree murder. DEC. 22: Clara Seal, 21, was shot during a drug-related robbery at 1511 Christy Drive. Covonta Magee, 19, 3441 O’Neal Lane, and Chelsea Daigle, 21, 1139 Rip Duplessis, Gonzales, were booked with first-degree murder. DEC. 25: Dominique Lathers, 22, was stabbed during an argument with his sister, Tomeka Lathers, at their 3063 McHugh Road home. Tomeka Lathers, 18, was booked with manslaughter.
