Suspect arrested in beating, robbery

A fugitive accused of robbing and beating a juvenile during the Christmas holidays also is implicated in last month’s theft of a safe, Police Chief Mike Knaps said Wednesday.

Knaps said Terry Lane Ferguson Jr., 18, 5137 Western Ave., Apartment C, Baker, is accused of striking the juvenile in the face Sunday, knocking out two of the boy’s teeth, while robbing him of a popular set of headphones.

Ferguson had been wanted by Baker police since Nov. 12, when he was accused, along with three accomplices, of burglarizing a residence in the 2400 block of South Street, Knaps said.

The other three suspects were arrested shortly after the break-in, and police recovered the safe, Knaps said.

Officers booked Ferguson at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, second-degree battery, simple robbery and criminal damage to property, the police chief said.
