Baker woman booked in stabbing death of her brother

East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested a Baker-area woman early Christmas Day in the stabbing death of her brother, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.

Deputies were called at 12:18 a.m. Tuesday to a duplex at 300-B McHugh Road where they discovered Dominque Lathers, 22, had been stabbed in the neck, Casey Rayborn Hicks said in a news release.

Lathers was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead as a result of his injuries, Hicks said.

His sister Tomeka Lathers, 18, had fled from the house, but deputies located her several houses down, Hicks said.

Tomeka Lathers told investigators she and her brother had been arguing when he choked her. She then went to the kitchen, got a knife, returned and stabbed him before fleeing, Hicks said.

Tomeka Lathers, 18, was booked into Parish Prison on a count of manslaughter, Hicks said.

The brother and sister lived at the duplex together, Hicks said.
