Ponchatoula woman dies in head-on collision

AMITE — A Ponchatoula woman was killed in a head-on collision west of Amite, State Police said Thursday.

Carly Cutrer, 25, was traveling west on La. 16 about a mile west of Interstate 55 around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, when for unknown reasons her car drifted across the center line into the oncoming lane and collided with a sport utility vehicle, Trooper Nicholas Manale said in a news release.

Cutrer was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene, Manale said.

The driver of the SUV, 38-year-old Sean Zimmerman, of Roxie, Miss., was properly restrained and received minor injuries in the crash, Manale said.

Two other occupants of Zimmerman’s vehicle, 63-year-old Anita Zimmerman and 66-year-old Steve Zimmerman, also were wearing seat belts and were transported to North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond for treatment of minor injuries.

Toxicology examinations will be conducted on evidence samples from both drivers at the State Police Crime Lab, Manale said. Driver impairment is not suspected.

Precisely my point. The story states that the deceased crossed the center line. That has been determined. So if the man she hit was impaired how does that fact change? Not to mention he had two witnesses in hos car.

Maybe Mr. Zimmerman told police that she crossed the center line, but there is no clear physical evidence. They need to do a complete investigation to ensure that it was indeed her fault.

I understand that the law states that all drivers are subject to a blood test in a fatal accident, but even if Mr. Zimmerman was hammered drunk why would that matter? He didn't cross the center line. He is a victim.
