Advocate staff report| Dec. 26, 2012 Comments THIBODAUX — Nicholls State University awarded 583 degrees during commencement exercises to students who completed their coursework in the summer and fall semesters, according to a news release the university issued Wednesday. Among the students honored during Saturday’s morning and afternoon commencement proceedings were five summa cum laude graduates, who earned cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher: Kandace Alexander, general studies major from Houma; Denise Badgerow, finance major from Houma; Yvette Barbier, culinary arts major from Baton Rouge; Amanda Deadmond, biology (pre-medicine/pre-dentistry) major from Slidell; and Ryan Smith, history major from Larose. Barbier and Deadmond also received the President’s Medal of Honor, which recognizes a perfect 4.0 GPA. During the morning commencement exercises, Nicholls awarded an honorary Doctor of Commerce to Michael Voisin, owner and CEO of Motivatit Seafoods. U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo, a 1977 Nicholls alumna, delivered keynote addresses at both morning and afternoon ceremonies.
