A Plaquemine man suspected in a rash of burglaries in Iberville Parish was arrested Sunday after security cameras caught him in the act, an Iberville Sheriff’s Office detective said.
Tyrell Henderson, 19, 58745 Belleview Road, was booked into West Baton Rouge Parish Jail on three counts of simple burglary of a vehicle. Iberville sheriff’s Capt. Blair Favaron, who is chief of detectives, said there will be more counts once authorities sort through the evidence.
Favaron said Henderson broke into several cars in a subdivision outside of Plaquemine on Friday morning, stealing a laptop, handgun, Christmas presents and purses.
Later that day, Plaquemine police learned of similar burglaries in a five- to six-block area inside city limits, and photos taken from security cameras at houses at both locations placed Henderson at both burglaries, Plaquemine police spokesman Capt. Kenny Payne said.
Favaron said when they arrived at Henderson’s house, they found him using one of the stolen laptops. Police also found other stolen items, including a computer, two handguns and cash, Favaron said.
He said police were not able to recover all of the stolen items; some may have been sold.
Payne said Henderson led them to at least two places in Plaquemine where the burglaries had not been reported yet.
“We recovered a lot of items we’re going to have to sort through,” Favaron said Sunday night. “The city is looking at him on some other burglaries and we’re going to do our homework (Monday). There will be more charges, it’s just gonna take some time.”
