Police arrest man in hotel party shooting

Gonzales Police arrested a man early Sunday in the shooting of another man Saturday during a children’s birthday party at the Hampton Inn off La. 30 near Interstate 10.

Alden Ray Warner, 33, of Baton Rouge, was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on one count of manslaughter, Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson said.

Warner is accused of killing Louis Talbert, 49, of Spring, Texas, Jackson said.

Ebony Bailey, 22, was hosting a birthday party for her daughter, 7, in one of the hotel’s rooms with children from 3 to 8 years old attending, police spokesman Sgt. Steven Nethken said.

Bailey had been in relationships with Warner and Talbert, who were both present at the party, Nethken said.

Bailey was dating Talbert and had at least one child with him, Nethken said. She used to date Warner and had three children with him, including the 7-year-old daughter, he said.

The two men began arguing, and Warner pulled out a gun and shot Talbert, Jackson said.

When officers arrived at the hotel at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Talbert was in critical condition but later died at the scene, Jackson said.

Warner was taken into custody for questioning and later arrested, Jackson said.

No one else was injured, Jackson said.

In a separate incident, Bailey broke into Talbert’s car Sunday afternoon and stole property from inside it, Nethken said.

Bailey was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on one count each of burglary and simple criminal damage to property, Nethken said.

Ivy, you're right. I'm sure they are all conservative voters. What was I thinking?

Folks it is the cullture of many people to live like this and bring up kids in this environment. This is the norm within that culture, multiple kids out of wedlock and guns being brough to birthday parties. Notice he didnt go get the gun, he pulled it out and shot the babys daddy. Now just who carries a gun to a kids party? Many people are not raised like animals and don't breed like animals..but some do. This will never change because their society sees nothing wrong with it. Sex education is not going to help these people, they know how to make babies and that is their intention, another baby the more assistance they get on the tax payers dollar. Its who they are.....period! Personally I wish these type of people would just disappear, but like a cancer they are spreading and bringing down property values and increasing the crime rate. The other day there was an article in the paper about a food drive in Scotlandville. In the article is said how there are no grocery stores in that area. Well no, because the public will not allow it to run and thrive. It will be robbed on regular basis and people will just take what they want without paying. Like that entire area it will be filthy. That's who they are and thats how they live, but they always want to blame their situation on others. Personally I could care less about them.

1. She should not have been having a child's birthday party at a hotel, period. 2. @boiledcrabs: your point was made without bringing politics into it, but since you did, please know that most women who begin childbearing before they are psychologically, emotionally, and financially prepared to do so RARELY concern themselves with the political landscape of their surroundings. No danger from them or their descendents, despite the rantings of the FOX crew and friends. All those "scary" stories about busloads of illegal-welfare-queen-recently-released-from-jail voters are just that: stories.

Producing multiple children out of wedlock and settling disputes with violence are both part of a subculture in this country. Sex education isn't going to change that. Do you really think that any of the three didn't know what makes babys when they had sex? It's not sex education we need, but moral education.

The newspaper has the wrong age. She is 32 years old. I don't know her but has a friend that does, seeing 22 and 4 children really had me worried. My heart goes out to the Talbert family, this man did not even live in Louisiana. Situations like this is really making Louisiana look bad.

I'm for sex education. And regardless of who the father was this girl was "raped" at the age of 15. If not by the older guy then by the younger guy who was 26 at the time. If a 26 year old was hanging around my 15 year old daughter he wouldn't be able to reproduce.

I'm all for sex education beginning very early on, explaining to the children what can happen if you put one pee-pee into another pee-pee, or however the h anyone wants to explain it. Of course, the most effective form of birth control is to keep your legs crossed and your fly zipped up until you are ready and able to shoulder the responsibility of actually bringing up the children you spawn. However, that's too much to ask from anyone thinking with their genitalia. So, yeah, bring on the sex ed.

Y'all got it wrong. The 7 year old was by Warner. She was currently dating the older guy. You guys want to judge the young woman, but you are the same type of people who balk at teaching sex ed in schools. In countries that are more open about sex education, you rarely have this type of situation. It's time for people to get their thinking out of the dark ages and deal with reality as it is today. We all pay when teenagers become parents. It's more of a symptom of our backward society than it is an indictment against the teenager - of course she and her parents bears some responsibility.

If the 7 year old was by Talbot that would mean he was 42 when he raped Bailey at 15. Why isn't he in jail? Maybe the other guy was having sex with her at 14 or 15. Amazing. But it means more votes for candidates like obama.

The "mother" is 22, has a 7 year old who is among at least 4 children she has with 2 different men. That means she started having them when she was 15. How wonderful to live in a country that doesn't impose any sanctions on prolific breeding or the number of dependents you can squeeze out to live on the taxpayers' dime.
