First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Dec. 8 fell to 3,516 from the previous week’s total of 4,048.
The state labor department figures released Friday show the four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 3,286 from the previous week’s total of 3,179. That’s the second increase in a row for the average.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending Dec. 8 increased to 31,287 compared to 30,273 the previous week. The four-week moving average for such claims increased to 30,194 from the previous week’s average of 29,939.
New claims and continued claims were both below the level of the same week in December 2011.
