Advocate story Dec. 11, 2012 Comments Suspect in robberyof grocery sought Police detectives are searching for the man who robbed the Greenwell Springs Road Piggly Wiggly at gunpoint Monday morning, police said. The man left the store, at 9702 Greenwell Springs Road, driving what appeared to be a 1980s model blue Chevrolet pickup, Police Department spokesman Lt. Don Kelly said in a news release. The suspect is described as a black man, 5 feet, 9 inches to 6 feet tall, about 170 to 180 pounds and 35 to 40 years old, Kelly said. Seven teens bookedwith armed robbery Sheriff’s deputies arrested seven teenagers Sunday accused in the beating and robbery of two children on Rush Avenue in Gardere, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said. The victims, a 10-year-old and a 13-year-old, told deputies they were attacked by seven boys and one girl around 2:15 p.m. at 8501 Rush Ave., Casey Rayborn Hicks said. Some of the boys struck the 10-year-old and held him down while another one went through his pockets, stealing his money and cellphone, Hicks said. The girl pulled out a knife and threatened both victims, Hicks said. The 13-year-old fought several of the attackers but couldn’t stop them, Hicks said. The attackers ran away after the robbery, Hicks said. Deputies later found six boys and one girl while patrolling the area and took them into custody, Hicks said. The teens, all of whom are either 14 or 15 years old, were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on counts of armed robbery. 1 booked with DWIin EBR Parish Prison Authorities arrested at least one person suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked her into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 2:30 p.m. Monday, booking records show. Dorothy Patterson, 29, 408 E. Cherokee St., Brookhaven, was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle. Compiled from staff reports.
