An Oscar man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 190 south of La. 978 in Pointe Coupee Parish, State Police reported Friday.
Ronnie L. Sproles, 56, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from his 1996 Toyota Tacoma and died from his injuries in the 5:30 p.m. Thursday wreck, troopers said in a news release.
While Sproles was driving east on U.S. 190, Benny T. Bradley, 36, of Opelousas, was heading west in his 2007 Dodge Charger on the same highway, troopers said.
The collision occurred as Sproles attempted to turn left through a guardrail barrier opening between the highway’s eastbound and westbound traffic lanes, troopers said.
While Sproles proceeded to make the turn across the westbound lanes, Bradley’s oncoming Charger struck the Tacoma’s passenger side, troopers said.
Bradley, who wore a seat belt, received moderate injuries.
Possible alcohol use was not immediately determined,
but troopers submitted toxicology samples from both drivers to the State Police Crime Laboratory for analysis.
