Youth Theater to begin production of ‘Honk! Jr.’ Youth Theater to begin production of ‘Honk! Jr.’ Advocate staff report Dec. 19, 2012 Comments The NORDC/Crescent City Lights Youth Theater presents “Honk! Jr.,” Sunday through Dec. 16 at the NORD Ty Tracy Theatre, 545 St. Charles Ave., on the first floor of Gallier Hall. “Honk! Jr.” is an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale “The Ugly Duckling,” with music by George Stiles and book and lyrics by Anthony Drewe. Children and adults will appreciate not only its timeless themes of self-discovery and acceptance, but also its witty lyrics and tuneful score. The musical is so inspirational in its message of acceptance and tolerance that the Ministry of Education in Israel has made it compulsory viewing for school children. “Honk! Jr.” follows Ugly (Miguel Molina, 10) whose odd, gawky looks instantly incite prejudice from his family and neighbors including his dad, Drake (Johan Lowe, 12). Separated from the farm and pursued by a hungry cat (Alaina McClue, 14), Ugly must find his way home, with only his loving mother, Ida (Erica O’Neal, 13), searching for him. Along his harrowing yet hilarious journey he not only discovers his true beauty and glorious destiny, but also finds love and acceptance in all its forms. The cast, ages 9 to 17, includes Alexis Alexis, Rachel Bonura, Tegan Cuthbert, Molly Gaffney, Sylvia Jones, Zion Lee, Isabella Miorana, Allie Norvell, Tyler Richardson, Mia Rodriguez, Lillian Villere and Eli Zitler. The NORDC/CCLYT production staff includes: Julie Condy, producing director and music director; Bonnie Gabel, staging director; Jamani Andrews, choreographer; Katie Schmidt, costumer; Edward R.
