Man cited in collision with school bus

A collision between a school bus and pickup Wednesday morning left several St. Tammany Parish school children with minor injuries and the truck driver with a citation.

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said the accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on Horse Branch Road in north Covington. They say Jose Correa, of New Orleans, was speeding in a Ford F-350, when he lost control at a sharp turn and collided with the bus. The bus driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The children on the bus had minor injuries but did not receive medical attention. Correa was cited for careless operation of a motor vehicle.

Suspect sought in theft of iPad at hotel

— Police are searching for a local man they say walked into an occupied hotel room and walked out with an iPad and accessories.

Anthony Thomas is wanted for theft after police say he entered another man’s Bourbon Street hotel room Monday and stole his electronic device. According to police, the victim heard a knock on his door and ignored it. Thomas entered the room, and quickly apologized to the hotel guest for disturbing him.

Thomas was later seen leaving the hotel carrying the victim’s bag with his iPad, according to police. Thomas is well-known to hotel security, who spotted him on the surveillance camera.

Man puts woman in headlock, steals purse

New Orleans police are searching for a robber who stole a woman’s purse after putting her in a headlock Wednesday morning.

The incident happened in the 500 block of Telemachus Street shortly after midnight, according to police. The suspect approached the victim from behind as she was walking to her car and put her in a headlock. He then forced the victim to the ground and demanded her purse.

When the victim began screaming, the suspect told her to shut up because he had a gun. The man then fled on foot towards Baudin Street. He was described as a black male, about 18 to 20 years old, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and dark jacket.
