Woman accused
of stabbing husband

A Kenner wife was booked with aggravated battery on Sunday after police say she stabbed her husband during an argument.

Christie Houston, 29, was arrested at her home on Vouray Drive after police say she stabbed her husband multiple times in the arm and chest when they argued on Sunday. According to an arrest report, the victim was having an argument with Houston when he decided to leave the home and take a walk.

The report says that Houston followed him from the home to continue the argument, then tried to force him to come back inside. When the man refused, Houston stabbed him with a kitchen knife. The man was taken to LSU Interim-Public Hospital for treatment. Houston became belligerent with officers who responded to the incident and also was booked with resisting an officer.

Fire at abandoned building investigated

A fire at an abandoned apartment complex in Michoud destroyed a vacant building Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 2:11 p.m. in the 14000 block of Peltier Drive. Firefighters found a small grass fire, but the blaze quickly spread to a nearby eight-unit building, said Capt. Edwin Holmes, a Fire Department spokesman. Holmes said the dry brush in the area, the complex’s isolated location and the fact that the building was gutted helped spread the fire.

Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings, and it was under control by 3:54 p.m., Holmes said. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
