Coalition offers grocery shopping event

The Lower Ninth Ward Food Access Coalition is calling attention to the dearth of fresh food in the area and giving families a shopping experience by creating a “Grocery Store for a Day’’ at All Souls Church on Saturday.

The event, which includes workshops and activities, runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church at 5500 St. Claude Ave. The stocker “store’’ will open at noon, and 500 families will be able to shop for groceries, although the food will be provided free of charge.
