Police investigate man’s death
LAFAYETTE — Lafayette police are investigating the death of a 24-year-old man whose body was found Monday behind some shrubs next to a lawyer’s office downtown.
The victim appeared to have been involved in a struggle prior to his death, according to Cpl. Paul Mouton, spokesman for Lafayette police.
An employee at the law offices of Richard R. Kennedy found the man’s body at noon Monday, Mouton said. The office is in the 300 block of Polk Street, he said.
The man’s body has been sent to the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office to determine the cause of death and the length of time the man has been dead, Mouton said.
The victim’s identity was not released Monday. Mouton said no other information was available.
Kennedy said Monday afternoon he was not at the office when the body was found and had no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
Police allowed him back into his building shortly after 3 p.m., he said.
The employee who found the man’s body had already gone home for the day, Kennedy said.
