Arrest made in Port Sulphur looting cases
Port Sulphur — Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office has booked a former Port Sulphur resident with looting in connection with thefts following Hurricane Isaac.
Kaci Rene Proute, 22, of Algiers, was arrested earlier this month in connection with reports of looting from homes and sheds in Port Sulphur that were damaged during the storm, according to Commander Eric Becnel, a sheriff’s spokesman.
The incidents happened on Milan Drive and Caroline Drive and included the theft of a generator.
Last month, the Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Billy Saunier, who lives on Caroline Drive, as a suspect in several lootings in the area.
Investigators also are searching for Derek Fruge, 27, and Holden Sylve, 19, in connection with lootings in the area. Fruge also lives on Caroline Drive.
Becnel said authorities recovered a television, handgun, tools, jewelry and fishing rods during a search of Saunier’s residence last month.
He said investigators believe Fruge fled to Livingston Parish. Anyone with information on Sylve or Fruge can contact Detective Sharon Cross at (504) 564-2525 or Crime Stoppers at (504) 822-1111.
