Police: Pedestrian killed in hit and run

Police said the body of a man killed in a hit and run was found late Saturday in a ditch along Airline Highway.

The unidentified pedestrian was found about 10:50 p.m. in the 7100 block of Airline Highway, which is near the intersection with Victoria Drive, Capt. Joan Cage said Sunday in a news release.

The victim is about 33 years old and Hispanic, she said.

Officers were told at the scene that the victim had been struck by a vehicle, the release says.

Authorities book 16
on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least 16 people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Gilbert Andre, 45, 11433 Glenhaven Ave., first-offense DWI, hit and run, urinating in public, other laws of the road, possession of marijuana and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Thomas Call, 27, 5904 Preston Road, Whitelaw, Wis., first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Christopher Dennis, 40, 9779 Royal St., St. Francisville, first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Ladafeio Dunbar, 39, 903 Perry Lane, Hammond, first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control/careless operation.
  • Jerome Lancaster, 31, 1213 MLK Drive, Jonesville, first-offense DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle, driver’s license suspended and drinking in a motor vehicle.
  • Samantha Lovett, 27, 2843 March St., Zachary, first-offense DWI, disobeying a police officer, driving over the median, reckless operation of a vehicle and driver’s license not in possession.
  • Alvin Muse, 45, 5544 Javerza St., second-offense DWI, speeding and driver’s license expired.
  • Conor Panian, 23, 4634 Earl Gros Ave., first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control/careless operation.
  • Peter Rizzo, 59, 1946 Lyndale Ave., Memphis, Tenn., first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Derrick Robins, 31, 2127 Audubon Ave., Thibodeaux, first-offense DWI, driver’s license required/expired and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Steffan Rutledge, 30, 4955 Sumrall Drive, first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Kelly Sills, 38, 7020 Annabelle Ave., first-offense DWI, speeding and driver’s license not on person.
  • Jeffrey Stines, 45, 4747 Annette St., first-offense DWI, drinking in public and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Justin Stone, 27, 1230 Kings View Circle, Zachary, first-offense DWI and reckless operation of a vehicle.

So, Gilbert was pulled over for driving badly... when and how did he get a chance to be busted for urinating in public? Did he just go right there in front of the cop? Seems funny either way...
