Man killed in Friday crash; charges expected

WASHINGTON, L a . — State Police are investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on La. 363 which claimed the life of a Ville Platte man.

Troopers said Chauncey Hesnor’s pickup was southbound early Friday morning when it ran off the highway, struck two cement culverts, overturned and came to rest in a ditch.

Hesnor, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

A passenger in his vehicle, Alex Reed, 19, of Ville Platte, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said Reed was properly restrained when the crash occurred.

When he is released from the hospital, Hesnor will be booked with vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no seat belt and open alcoholic container, investigators said.

The crash remains under investigation.
