Workshops to explain health plans
The East Baton Rouge Parish school system is holding five workshops Monday to explain four new ways the school system plans to save at least $6 million in employee medical spending in 2013.
Three workshops for all active employees will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at these three schools: McKinley Middle Magnet School, 1550 Eddie Robinson Drive; Scotlandville Magnet High School, 9870 Scotlandville Ave.; and Woodlawn High School, 15755 Jefferson Highway.
Two workshops for retired employees are at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., both at the Professional Development Center, 3000 N. Sherwood Forest Drive.
The School Board last month rejected a proposal to push 2,700 Medicare-eligible retirees into a Medicare supplemental insurance exchange.
School officials have since developed four options they plan to present Monday.
The simplest new option would be to raise medical insurance premiums for all employees by 25 percent.
