Baton Rouge police arrested a woman accused of stabbing and killing her live-in boyfriend following an argument early Sunday.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, Katina Carter, 29, stabbed Ladrian Davis, 26, in the chest with a knife at 1 a.m. in their apartment in the Hidden Pointe Apartments complex at 11850 Wentling Ave. in the southeast part of East Baton Rouge Parish near Airline Highway and South Sherwood Forest Boulevard.
A next-door neighbor, Maya Thompson, 17, said she was outside with a friend at the time and witnessed part of the couple’s fight.
“She came out and got in his car. He said, ‘That’s my car, get out of my car and give me back my credit card too.’ She was saying, ‘You shouldn’t have punched me in the eye.’ She pulled off, and he went back inside,” said Thompson.
Carter had grabbed a knife before leaving the apartment, the affidavit says, showing “her intent.”
Thompson said Carter left in her boyfriend’s car, then returned about 10 minutes later.
When Carter returned to the apartment, she stabbed Davis in the chest with the knife, the affidavit says.
“After she stabbed him I heard him falling down the stairs,” Maya Thompson said.
Davis then staggered out of the apartment and fell into a puddle in the parking lot, Thompson said.
Two men came out of the apartment and, one grabbing Davis’ feet and the other holding his shoulders, hoisted him into a car and drove off, Thompson said. He later died, the affidavit says.
Carter admitted to the stabbing and was taken into custody “without incident,” police spokesman Cpl. Tommy Stubbs said.
Carter was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of second-degree murder.
Davis was the 10th domestic violence murder victim in the parish so far this year, according to statistics compiled by The Advocate. There have been 56 total murders in the parish so far this year.
Authorities classify domestic violence incidents as those involving a man and a woman who are living together or who have lived together within five years of the incident, whether married or not.
Maya Thompson’s older sister, Danielle Thompson, 26, said she was shocked to hear the fate of the seemingly happy couple, who had been living next door to her since March.
“They never fight,” she said. “Their room is right above my room. I never heard them arguing. They seemed like they had a pretty good relationship. Wow, I can’t believe this.”
