City project may affect residents

A community meeting is planned Wednesday concerning the fourth phase of a natural gas line-replacement program in the city, Mayor Harold Rideau said.

The 6 p.m. meeting will be in the Municipal Auditorium.

The city is soliciting bids from contractors to replace old steel gas lines with industry-standard plastic lines in three areas, Rideau said.

Residents in the affected areas are invited to the meeting to discuss street closures and other inconveniences that the project may cause, the mayor said.

“There may be some digging in some yards,” the mayor
said.

The streets in project area 1 are Morvant, Amerest, Driftwood, Wedgewood, Middlewood, Teakwood, Ironwood, Northwood, North, South and West Morvant Place and Sprucewood.

The streets in the second area are Hovey, Chamberlain, College, Taylor, Morehouse, Clark, Perkins, Felton, Mitchell and John Marks.

The third area includes Buchanan, Coolidge, Harrison, Grant, Arkansas, Epperson and Myrtle streets.

Rideau said the project will be funded by approximately $657,000 in Hurricane Gustav recovery funds and budgeted city capital improvement funds.
