Teenager accused in accidental shooting
Baton Rouge police arrested a 16-year-old in the accidental shooting death Sunday of a 19-year-old man, according to a police spokesman.
Donta Young, 19, 5958 Cadillac St., Apt. 11009, died from a gunshot wound to the chest after a handgun he was passing back and forth with his 16-year-old friend accidentally fired, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely in a news release.
Young was taken to a hospital where he died, McKneely said.
The 16-year-old, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Detention Center on a count of negligent homicide.
Authorities arrest 9 on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least nine people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, booking records show. Those booked and the counts against them:
- Kimberly Ashmore, 21, 2054 Walnut Ridge Ave., first-offense DWI and speeding.
- Phillip Bates, 43, 6748 Tracey Road, Atoka, Tenn., first-offense DWI and improper lane usage.
- Robert Farmer, 23, 1447 Lee Drive, first-offense DWI, improper turning, improper lane usage and reckless driving.
- Mary Jeans, 40, 18449 Lake Tulip Ave., first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control.
- Keandre Marcus, 23, 6747 Renoir Ave., first-offense DWI, possession of alcohol in a vehicle, tail lamps required and driver’s license suspended or revoked.
- Duane Pigott, 22, 1806 Lasley St., Bogalusa, first-offense DWI, driving on a suspended or revoked license and speeding.
- Donald Quiett, 52, 3085 Eaton St., first-offense DWI and improper turning.
- Sydney Sanderson, 22, 900 Dean Lee Drive, first-offense DWI, disobeying a red light and reckless operation of a vehicle.
- Courtney Whittington, 25, 8889 S. Blackwater Road, first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control.
