Two shot, injured on Airline Highway
Three men, including a bystander, were injured Thursday in a shooting while traveling on Airline Highway near Woman’s Hospital.
The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. as three sport utility vehicles traveled south in the 9000 block of Airline, police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
Someone in one of the SUVs fired shots at a group of men in one of the other SUVs, wounding two of the men, McKneely said. The people in those SUVs were feuding with each other when the shooting occurred, he said.
A man in the third SUV, not involved in the feud, was grazed in the head by a bullet, McKneely said.
Shortly after being shot, all three victims went to Woman’s Hospital seeking treatment, McKneely said. The men were treated there by paramedics then transported to another hospital.
One of the men, McKneely said, had life-threatening injuries.
Police arrested one of the shooting victims and another man who was in the SUV that was fired upon, McKneely said.
Calvin Sanders, 22, 1132 Oregon Ave., was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish on a count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Dallas Simon, 22, 10950 Darryl Drive, was booked on one count each of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Investigators have not yet determined whether Simon and Sanders fired their handguns, McKneely said.
Investigators also have not been able to identify or locate the person or people who fired shots.
A motive for the shootings, other than a feud, is not known.
