Coca-Cola United names new executive

Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United has named Paul Favaron as president of the Gulf Coast Region, overseeing Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Lake Charles territories, as well as McComb, Gulfport and Hattiesburg, Miss.

Favaron is assuming the responsibilities of former President Darian Chustz, who died last month.

Favaron earned his bachelor’s degree from LSU in 1976 before beginning his career as a manager trainee at Baton Rouge Coca-Cola Bottling Co.

He held a number of key sales positions in Baton Rouge and was promoted in 1985 to vice president of sales and division manager for Lafayette Coca-Cola.

Louisiana Generating signs power pacts

Louisiana Generating, an NRG Energy Inc. subsidiary, has entered 11-year contract extensions through 2025 to provide power to the Washington-St. Tammany Electric and Claiborne Electric cooperatives.

Both cooperatives filed applications with the Louisiana Public Service Commission on Wednesday seeking approval of the agreements.

Together, the two contracts are for more than 450 megawatts of electrical load at peak demand.

The two contracts come at a time when Louisiana Generating lost the Dixie Electric Membership Corp. to a 10-year contract with Pineville-based Cleco Corp.

“As an independent power generation company, we provide a perfect partnership for not-for-profit electric distribution cooperatives that has resulted in some of the lowest residential rates in the state,” said Jennifer Vosburg, president of Louisiana Generating. “When compared to rates of competing utilities, the rates we are able to offer our cooperative customers attract members to their area and help them grow; and we will be able to meet their load growth needs for years to come.”
