Man, 54, booked in murder try on son in Livingston
Deputies booked a man with attempted second-degree murder of his adult son after a shooting near Albany on Friday afternoon, the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office reported.
Scott J. Hardy, 36, was admitted to a Hammond hospital in critical condition for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Chief Criminal Deputy Jason Ard said.
The victim subsequently was transferred to a hospital in New Orleans, where his condition seemed to be improving, Ard said.
Scott Hardy appeared to have been shot in the back with a blast of buckshot from a 12-gauge shotgun, Ard said.
George W. Hardy Jr., 54, was booked with attempted second-degree murder, child desertion and illegal use of a weapon, Ard said.
At the time of the shooting in a mobile home on Strawberry Lane, a woman and a 2-year old-child were inside, but they were not physically harmed, Ard said.
The presence of the 2-year-old at the scene was the reason for the child-desertion booking, Ard said.
The father and son both lived in the mobile home, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Ard said the men argued prior to the shooting in what apparently was an ongoing domestic dispute dating back several weeks.
Detectives recovered the shotgun believed to have been used in the shooting, the chief deputy reported.
The father surrendered to deputies without incident, Ard said.
George W. Hardy Jr. was being held in the Livingston Parish Detention Center in lieu of $85,500 bail late Friday, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
