Interviews set for EBR superintendent

The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board plans to interview three of the six semifinalists for school superintendent starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Kelt Cooper, superintendent of the school district in Del Rio, Texas, is first. Elliot Smalley, deputy for strategy and communications for the county school district in Charleston, S.C., is next at 5:15 p.m., and Samuel King, superintendent for the county school district in Conyers, Ga., is last, at 7:30 p.m.

The other three semifinalists are scheduled for interviews Monday.

The interviews are expected to last two hours each with board members questioning candidates for the first hour and members of the public posing questions during the last hour. A 15-minute break is planned between each interview.

While the interviews will not be shown live, Metro 21 is planning to broadcast them later: Thursday starting at 8 a.m. for the first three semifinalists, and Tuesday starting at 8 a.m. for the second three semifinalists.

The board plans to meet Jan. 25 to select finalists.

The person selected as the next superintendent will replace John Dilworth, who is leaving June 30 when his three-year contract expires.

The board set up a website for the search: http://news.ebrschools.org/explore.cfm/2012suptsearch/.
