The Iberville Parish public school system is taking applications for its Math, Science and Arts academies in Plaquemine and St. Gabriel.
The deadline to submit applications, now available at the schools, is Jan. 23.
There will be an open house at MSA-West in Plaquemine at 6 p.m. Jan. 18, and an open house at MSA-East in St. Gabriel at 6 p.m. Jan. 19.
The Math, Science and Arts attendance lottery drawing will be held at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Optional Education Center in Plaquemine.

Women of Lincoln era
An exhibit highlighting the stories of 12 women living during the era of Abraham Lincoln who made a difference in American history will be on display at the West Baton Rouge Museum starting Saturday.
The museum is encouraging the public to attend the free opening reception for its “Life and Landscapes along Louisiana Highway 1” exhibit from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 14.
The exhibit displays artwork created by members of the Associated Women in the Arts after they were inspired by the historic highway that traverses the state.
The museum also is looking for a volunteer to work Wednesday interested in helping with clerical work, school tours, collections, library care and event preparation. Volunteer hours can be adjusted.

Maringouin and MLK
The public is invited to participate in a march and church program celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 14 in Maringouin.
The march down Landry Street and past Bayou Maringouin begins at 10:30 a.m.
The church program, “A Salute to Dr. King,” begins at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Center.
State 1st Circuit Court of Appeal Judge John Guidry will serve as guest speaker.
All previous speakers, participants and choirs are invited to be a part of the celebration. Refreshments will be served.

WBR and MLK Day
The West Baton Rouge Parish Mass Choir will hold its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day service at 10 a.m. Jan. 16 at Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
There will be a parade on the same day starting at 1 p.m. at William & Lee Park.

Hoop shooting contest
The Plaquemine Elks annual “Hoop Shoot” free-throw competition for children will be held an. 14 at Plaquemine High School.
The event is free and open to all children between the ages of 8 and 13 . All participants must have proof of age to compete.
Winners have the opportunity to advance to state, regional and national hoop-shoot competitions.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. The competition starts at 10 a.m.
