Amedisys co-chairman resigns

David R. Pitts has retired as non-executive co-chairman of the board of directors for Baton Rouge-based Amedisys Inc.

Pitts, 75, had served on the home nursing giant’s board for more than 17 years. He was announced as co-chairman in late February, on the same day as the resignation of Amedisys founder, chief executive and chairman William Borne. Pitts and co-chairman Donald A. Washburn were asked to take a greater role in overseeing the troubled firm.

Pitts’ retirement from the board was effective Aug. 31. Washburn has been elected non-executive chairman of the board.
