In the first shooting, at 4 p.m. Friday, a man driving down Martial Avenue became enraged at another driver for unknown reasons and fired a single pistol shot at the driver’s car, said Cpl. Paul Mouton, a Lafayette police spokesman. The bullet hit the car, Mouton said, but the driver wasn’t hurt and the assailant sped away. Then, about 2:30 a.m. Saturday, two men in a Taco Bell parking lot on West Congress Street walked up to two other men parked there wanting to fight, Mouton said. The two in the car attempted to drive off, but one of the assailants opened fire, striking the car and a building nearby but causing no injuries, Mouton said.
